Disinflation tailwind meets a heavy data-and-earnings tape, with the S&P pinned just under its record into Friday's monthly options expiry.
Back-to-back soft inflation prints reset the rates path lower — June CPI came in at -0.4% month-over-month with core flat, and PPI fell 0.3% — carrying the S&P to a 7,572 close (+0.38%), a fresh high. Futures sit roughly flat pre-open as the tape digests the move. The next read hinges on 8:30 ET data: June retail sales (headline +0.3% expected vs +0.9% prior, ex-auto -0.1%) and initial jobless claims near last week's 215k. Three Fed speakers and a Trump primetime address round out the session.
Structurally, spot is holding above the ~7,535 gamma flip and pressing the 7,600 call wall, with the 7,500 put wall as first support (SPY ~753.5 flip, 760 wall, 750 floor). ATM IV near 12% sits under HV20 around 12.8% — a low-vol, long-gamma regime that should suppress realized and encourage a pin into Friday's expiry. Earnings are the wildcard: TSM, UNH, GE and ABT pre-open, Netflix after the close.
The risk: a hot retail sales number or a jobless-claims spike flips the disinflation narrative and pressures rate-sensitive tech. A break back below the 7,535 flip (SPY 753.5) hands control to short-gamma dealers and opens 7,500, while a soft Netflix guide after the bell would drag QQQ into Friday's expiry.
